Indonesia, formally known as the Republic of Indonesia, is the world’s largest island country and the most populous Muslim country. With a population of over 245.6 million people and an area of over 1,919,440 km2, it is the largest country in the region and the fourth most-populous country in the world and the 14th largest country. Indonesia is home to hundreds of unique ethnic and linguistic groups spread across more than thirteen thousand islands. Indonesia border Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, and East Timor, and has 34 administrative districts, of which 5 have special status.
