Iran (officially known as the Islamic Republic of Iran) is a state in Western Asia. To the west it borders with Iraq, to the northwest with Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Turkey, to the north with Turkmenistan, and to the east with Afghanistan and Pakistan.
To the north of Iran lies the Caspian Sea, and to the south are the Persian Gulf, the Gulf of Oman and the Indian Ocean.
